This blogger hails from Pittsburgh, PA. And winter in Pittsburgh is a force to be reckoned with – even for the most seasoned layer lovers. Once the thermometer drops below freezing, the art of outerwear becomes serious business – good inspiration is a must. Enter Hel Looks.
This street style site focuses on a population who feels right at home in the briskest of backdrops – Helsinki, Finland. People of all ages, sizes and looks make this site exceptionally diverse, featuring eccentric ensembles that span all corners of the style spectrum. It’s a refreshing departure from the couture laden model types that grace the pages of the more popular street style sites. Attention is given to heros of personal style rather than runways: bright colors, thrifted garments and unexpected mixes characterize this site’s unique sartorial eye. While many of the looks may seem over the top for even the most adventurous of fashionistas, it’s a beacon of inspiration for those of us want to look beyond the usual trend-driven suspects for a fresh point of view.
Where do you search for great outfit ideas?
I love Miss Agyness Deyn. I love her face. I do my best to mimic her hair color. She has an incredible sense of style – she’s a personal favorite of mine for so many reasons. This week, she gave me yet another excuse to keep her portrait on my (theoretical) wall of fame:
She recently put her New York apartment on the market, affording us lucky Deyn fans a glimpse into her antique-filled paradise. Deyn doesn’t use an interior designer. Most what you see was hand picked by the woman herself from antiques malls cross the world (a favorite hobby of hers). I’ve taken to adding pink hearts to my favorite pieces in each of the pictures like I’m circling toys in a catalog. That marble bathtub floors me. The mirrored walls are brilliant. So much inspiration to be had – it’s like a Free People catalog fell on Chloe Sevingy (the topic of our next post).
Obviously such a strong look garners strong reactions, and it seems like her eccentric decorating style is getting a typical love/hate split among people who care enough to write about it. What do you think about her over-the-top abode?
